Marble Coffee Tables

Marble has a beautiful appearance, and can be a rich and luxurious addition to your home. While marble countertops and floors can be more trouble than they’re worth, marble coffee tables are a great alternative to adding something posh to your furniture collection. They’re solid, easy to care for and will last a lifetime, not to mention being attractive through any home décor designing trend.

These pieces of furniture are beautiful and durable, but they do need a certain amount of maintenance to keep them stain-free and lasting forever. Marble is a rock formed from sea-shell deposits, and the main ingredient of sea shells is calcium carbonate. Acid can work its way under the polish or finish of marble coffee tables, soak into the porous rock, and slowly disintegrate your beautiful furniture into fine sand.

So you’ll just avoid acids near the table, right? Think again as one of the most common cleaning agents in cleaning products today is vinegar, a definite acid. Keep vinegar and anything containing vinegar far away from marble coffee tables to makes sure they stay in one piece! When you need to clean your marble coffee tables, use a combination of baking soda and warm water to wipe your furniture down, air dry for a couple of hours, then wipe the tables down again to rinse them off. When you’re looking for a little more shine on the surface of your marble coffee tables, use white chalk powder and a wet rag for polishing, then rinse and allow the marble to dry.

As with any table, they are going to get a fair share of usage. You may want to cover the surface with glass, to prevent scratching and stains, but in case you haven’t gotten around to it, quick stain fixes can be easily whipped up. Any sugar-based stain can be scrubbed with a few drops of liquid dish detergent combined with warm water. Food stains on marble coffee tables need quick action with the same soapy water that has some hydrogen peroxide added. Rub the stain, flood it with the solution (wipe up excess water immediately) and repeat. Never let any stain absorb into the rock and dry, or the mark will remain permanently.

Considering the damage that can be done just through staining or marble coffee tables coming into contact with the wrong product, this type of furniture isn’t the best to have around if you’ve got small children. Toddlers and young children touch all sorts of things and hang onto furniture for stability, and it’s better to cover the surface of marble coffee tables with glass than to be constantly trying to scrub out stains.

If you’re cautious about stains and cleaning products, marble is fairly maintenance free and its durability and beauty will last for ages. The colors of the polished rock are very pretty, and marble coffee tables make for interesting conversation pieces and will heighten the look of your room.
